My Airport Song

I got to the gate
A little bit late.
It wasn’t my fault,
But simply my fate.

I woke up at five in the morning,
A two hour drive to begin
To reach the airport at nine A.M
For a work flight at noon to Berlin.

I’d accounted for all the surprises
And left time for those that I missed.
Or so I thought ’til my Maggy arrived,
Her temperament thoroughly pissed.

I got to the gate
A little bit late.
It wasn’t my fault.
It was mostly my mate.

Turns out my Maggy discovered
Her darlingness wasn’t exclusive,
Though I thought I’d kept my affairs
In Germany fairly elusive.

I managed to exit by quarter to six
With a bit of my Chevy un-smashed.
At quarter past six came the sirens,
Wondering where I had been when I crashed.

I got to the gate
A little bit late.
It wasn’t my fault.
It was Officer Kate.

The cops pointed out my transmission,
Amazed at how far I had drug ‘er.
I’ve never known cables so durable
Or Maggy’s skill with a Louisville Slugger.

My taxi arrived at eleven,
My hope not entirely shattered.
The cops sold my car at an auction
To benefit the domestically battered.

I got to the gate
A little bit late.
It wasn’t my fault,
But I made $398.

I arrived at the gate at noon-thirty
And saw my Boeing depart.
It flew off with my job and my meeting,
But it also flew off with my heart.

So I called up my sweetheart abroad
And cancelled what our evening implied.
Then I called my Maggy, two blessed hours away
And said, “Can you give me a ride?”

I stayed at the gate
Until it was late.
Thanks for listening honey.
Would you care for a date?

The Parrot’s Lament (Go Away Sunshine)

Go away sunshine.
I ain’t in the mood.
Leave me alone.
Just let me brood.

Go away sunshine
Like my Polly’s gone.
She had many good sides,
But whose side was she on?

Go away sunshine.
I know she’s a snacker,
But who could predict
How she wanted that cracker?

Go away sunshine.
Let me sit in this cage,
And share with passerby
My avian rage.

The B.A. Blues

My eyes water,
My arms sweat,
When I see
My Bernadette.

My tongue goes numb,
And I can’t feel my face
When I see
My lovely Grace.

My feet itch,
My buttocks yawn
When I see
My darling Dawn.

I think that college
Did this to me,
‘Cause I’m a bachelor
In the first degree.

My Chemical Un-Romance

I’d like to think
Love is a choice,
And the product of
An adoring mind.

I’d like to think
It’s a little voice
That reminds you
To be gentle and kind.

Yet who we love
Is often chosen
By hormones
Running free.

So I hope you find
A place in your adrenals
And save it
Just for me.

Different Kisses

“Every kiss begins with Kay:”
It’s catchy, but untrue.
I know kisses that begin with “Hey,”
With silence, or “I love you.”

Where the sales pitch is excellent
And really makes the cut
Is in the case of all those kisses
That end with “Kay, now what?”

Dasher’s Passion

Her pulse quickened,
Her face blushed,
As the huskies ran
And the drivers mushed.

And as they raced
Under skies of blue
She envied them so
And her heart raced too.

Alas, she was employed
In a sled pulling occupation,
At the head of Santa’s flying pack
Giving gifts across the nation.

And so when Rudolph came along
And usurped her lofty place,
No one could explain her smile
Until she left to join the race.

Love is in the air

Once upon a fleeting glimpse
Lived an airplane who loved all blimps,
But when she touched them they would pop
Because she struck them with her prop(ellor).

But plane Jane did not despair.
She kept on searching through the air.
She found true love just like she said
With a zeppelin made of lead.

The Friendly Giant

Giant big,
Peasant small.
Giant’s hands
Like wrecking ball.

But giant doesn’t
Wreck too much.
He uses giant hands
To touch

The wounded folk,
Large or small.
He hates pain,
He fix it all.

Giant sees
A little pain,
Giant fix it,
Shine or rain.

Giant isn’t
Very smart,
But giant has
A giant heart.

Little Kraken Declares His Love

I hunted for the Red October
But only found the blue.
I know it ‘s only second best,
But I brought it here for you.

I left it on your doorstep
‘Cause it seemed a reasonable spot.
Too bad your boat was so tiny,
But hey, you can buy another yacht.

I just want to see you smile
And hug you with all eight arms.
I’ll try to be oh-so-gentle,
But sometime I do harms.

I love you sailor, yes I do.
Can’t you love this kraken too?

Overheard at Bring Your Dad to School Day

I’m not just a logger;
I’m a matchmaker for trees.
See, how life goes for them
Is one arbor sees

The love of their life
Just a few feet away,
And they spend their time loving
Each other all day.

After a while
What these trees want so much
Is to lean over a little
And let their bodies touch,

So I whop out my chainsaw
And bring that love to fruition.
It makes me feel good
And it pays her tuition.
