One Double Scoope of Love

‘Twas my 22nd Summer alone
When I met my love in a waffle cone.
She was sweet and brown and cool
And for her I was a fool.

I was but white, and sort of bland,
But still my love did take my hand.
Although we were of separate classes,
We both appealed to the masses.

And so I asked her for her name,
And sweet, of course, her answer came.
“I am lady Chocoliette,
But I do not know your name yet.”

“My name,” I said, “Is Vanillio,
And I think I’ve fallen in love with yo.”
We shared a kiss and some saturated fat,
Then some kid ate us, and that was that.

Thus ends the tale of Chocoliette
And her beloved Vanillio,
Who had a pretty decent life
As star-crossed lovers go.

Gotta Catch The One

When I was a kid
My hardest choice
Was choosing between Charizard
And Blastoise.

I’ve grown up since then,
Lived through rises and falls,
And I now capture hearts
Instead of monsters in balls.

And I’ve met many women,
But no no love proved true.
But I caught all 150
When I laid eyes on you.

The End of Winter

Heavy, the scent of roses
Lies upon the veranda
Where I sit, hand in hand,
With my lover, Miranda.

She sweats like an osprey,
And I sweat like a bear.
It’s a good thing for us
Our hormones don’t care.

The sun smiles down
From its cloudless abode.
And two antelope hump
On the side of the road.

A warm, friendly wind
Caresses the trees.
There’s spring in the air.
That’s when I start to sneeze.

Romantus Lycanthropus (Thatus is Latinus)

Yellow teeth
And orange eyes
Shine like fire
Under the full moon.

I try to smile,
Tell some lies,
But all I can say is
“Hey honey. Back so soon?”

My lover plods forwards
With wolfish eyes fixed
On the little pink pocket
At the base of my neck.

I know what I must do.
My feelings aren’t mixed.
It’s her time of the month,
And out I must get the heck.

On Marriage

What is a wedding
But an exchanging of rings
Between two willing people
Who are scared of different things?

Simile’s Birthday

Her smile was wide as a toothpick
And her face glowed like a new moon
When she opened my birthday gift
And discovered I’d given her a spoon.

Her words were clean as a dumpster,
Thanking me like a wrecking ball.
For the next few weeks we had sex like mushrooms,
By which I mean no sex at all.

But I think she still loves me regardless
And I’m still in love with my wife.
But both of us are happy as clams that
I chose not to buy her a knife.

Belles and Whistles

Bart had greased the lightning,
And he’d tested all the wires
By the light of midnight oil,
And his own creative fires.

And as the howling wind chimed the bell
at three thirteen A.M.
He flipped to “on” the on switch,
And prepared to meet his gem.

At first, nothing happened,
Then arose a soft whirr.
It sat up, and he whistled
Enraptured by her.

But in both of their hearts
There lingered one mystery:
Could biology and robotics
Develop lasting chemistry?

The creator stepped forward
With his eyes fixed upon
His creation and said
“My name’s Bart. Your name’s Dawn.”

The lovebot responded
to Bart’s great surprise.
She looked up, with an LED
Light in her eyes.

And after she spoke,
Her uniqueness shone through.
She said “One zero zero
one zero one two.”

“You’ve broken the binary!”
Said the excited Bart,
And he embraced Dawn,
Who had stolen his heart.

The two of them got married,
Neither had any reservations.
They had all the bells and whistles,
But not a lot of converations.

And at night, Bart would fall asleep,
After powering off his Dawn,
And every night he dreamed
Of that first night he turned her on.

First Love Lasts Forever

I still remember the first girl I loved,
Though I will not say her name.
I was her seventh-grade knight in cargo pants.
She was my white-bloused seventh grade dame.

Today we’re friends, if only online,
But we seldom text or chat.
We write a note when birthdays come,
But rarely more than that.

Despite the distance and nonchalance
She’ll always have a place
In this man’d heart, and in my mind
I’ll always know her face.

The first love we know never goes away,
Invulnerable to time.
So make sure your kid in seventh grade
Never falls in love with a mime.

Mustang (For my Sister)

Mustang

She grew up in sixty days,
Perfected by a sergeant’s love.
Her weakness died in August’s blaze
And a flawless warrior soared above.

She dressed in tan as she ran by,
In green when she was done.
She marched in blue under cloudy sky,
Embraced me ‘neath the sun.

The days that followed all were bliss,
That faded with each other.
At night we parted with a kiss
Between sister and brother.

I’d just four days to see the change
Before again we had to part.
Our eyes cannot see past the range,
But range means nothing to the heart.

So I saluted one time more
And walked away to catch my flight.
I smiled, walking past the door,
But on the plane I cried all night.

And thus my mustang flew away,
Unbridled by her childhood fear,
And so I wait until the day
My airman once again is near.

The Field That Is Us

It’s beautiful, this field,
With grass as high as your knees.
Soft and green
Swaying gently in a breeze
As warm as my love’s embrace.

We met here as children.
In the end she’d be my wife.
We trampled flowers, frightened birds
And swore eternal love to life
And each other.

Twelve years later we returned,
Twice as old and just as free.
She wanted to make love,
And I fell to one knee
And told her to wait a bit longer.

The wedding came, intimate,
With guests totaling eleven.
It rained and we cried
In joy, in love, in heaven.
There was a rainbow before the sunset.

I return sixty years later
Driving down the road unpaved.
It rains again as I kneel
And lay a flower on her grave
In the field that is us.
