The Things I Do For My Wife

Today I ran a 5K race

With dribbling rain upon my face.

I paid thirty dollars to

Earn a free donut to share with you.

Now I’m soggy, tired, and sore

And I weigh at least a donut more,

But I see a smile in your eyes

And that is why I exercise.

But You Get A Cool T-Shirt! (Or Why I Stopped Worrying And Ran A 5K)

Somehow we went from running

To avoid becoming a meal

To paying $50 to run

To express the way we feel.

The Gingerbread’s Regrets

I told them to run, run, run.

In fact, I mercilessly taunted.

Alas the final result

Was nothing like what I wanted.

I did not fully consider

When all was said and done

The degree of just how slowly

We cookie-men can run.

In The Long Run

I broke my all time record
In the 100 meter dash.
I was a wild jungle cat,
And faster than the flash,

And yet I came in second place
‘Cause I misunderstood the rules.
That’s why I ran a 5K
In a minute thirty-two.
