Domestic Departure

Her skin smells of home

Like a freshly-cooked meal.

Her hair gleams in the sun.

Like a newly mopped floor.

Her eyes are as blue

As just-cleaned toilet water.

Too bad she doesn’t

Live here anymore.

Love in the Time of Gigabytes

I wish that we were pixels

Brought to life by LED.

I wish that ones and zeroes

Were all there was to you and me.

I wish we could reload our save

Whenever we had a fight,

But instead we’ve got reality

To see us through the night.

Our lives would sure be simpler

If the internet had a guide

To tell us what we need to share

And what we need to hide.

We’d get along much better

If you could simply pay

To get extra relationship points…

Oh wait, that’s Valentine’s Day…

I wish that we were perfect.

If I could make it so, I would.

I’m not perfect, nor are you,

But I’m content with good.

Yes, life would be simpler

As little dots of light,

But instead we’ve got reality

And with you, that’s quite alright.

Tuesday Night

Tuesday night at 10:05

She texted “are you up?”

Tuesday night at 10:16

I cleverly sent back “yup.”

Wednesday morning, 4:08

She wrote me back “me too.”

I heard she found a new “BF,”

And I honestly pity the foo’.

Starcrossed Nemeses

She was like a James Bond villain:

Charismatic, certainly,

And she had a pool of sharks

And talked nonstop to me.

That suited me just fine.

I’ve also got an evil brain,

But I’m the type of bad guy

With bad teeth who gets thrown off a train.

A Table By The Men’s Room

Our eyes joined as one

Across the smoky hall.

Your heartbeat grew faster

And you let out a call.

I stood and approached,

So graceful and tall.

You thought of love,

And I of nature’s call.

Life On A Farm

My brother-in-law

Thinks poultry are sultry.

My other bro’s honey’s a bee.

I’m the traditional guy in the family:

Nothing but cousins for me!

Home and the Heart

I read yesterday

That to find love you must

Do what you like doing

And in destiny trust.

I read that by living

As you naturally would

Love will find you

(Or at least it should).

So I lie in my boxers,

Asleep on my couch,

With a paused Halo 4

Shining light on my slouch.

I dream lovely dreams

Of her warmth on my skin,

And I wait for the day

Some cute burglar breaks in.

…Too Much, Apparently

Despite being a poet,

With all the hype,

I am not

The wealthy type.

I think people

Are happiest

Without what’s fastest,

Newest, best.

Buy all that changed

When I saw you,

So bright and lovely

And oh so new.

You smelled of love

I’d long forgot,

And I liked it.

I wanted it a lot.

So now I’ve approached.

In your eyes I am lost,

And so I must ask:

How much do you cost?

Love On Camera

I gazed into her eyes,

Though she thought I saw her chin.

I was mesmerized at once

By the pixels of her skin.

Until we sent those videos

I was not the romantic type,

But now I sit corrected.

I fell in love at first Skype.

Prelude to a Full-Body Cast

There once was a girl that I knew

That I really wanted to do.

She said “I’m with someone.”

Of the guy, I made fun.

I didn’t know that guy was you.
