They said “we’re handing out
“A million bucks quite surely
“For free for everyone at 8:00 AM.”
I would, but it’s sort of early…

Tick tock!
I see her walk
Down main street USA.
The passing time…
Her smile’s bright shine…
I hardly notice the gloomy day.
Tick tock!
I see her stop
And watch her turn my way.
Time feels so slow.
I’ve no place to go.
So glad I’ve got all day!
Hours, minutes,
Days and weeks;
The world is timeless
When she speaks.
Her endless sunset
Lights my life.
What on Earth
Will I tell my wife?
Tick tock!
I see her socks.
They look a lot like mine.
Her lovely face…
Her classic grace…
The way she says “I’m fine…”
Tick tock!
Again she talks.
She calls my secret name.
It dawns on me
And soon I see…
Oh my God, how lame!
Hours, minutes,
Days and weeks;
The world is timeless
When she speaks.
Her endless sunset
Lights my life.
Just realized…
She is my wife!
They say when you love something
Time will stand still.
I think love’s correlated
With my watch-repair bill.
I’m in a time vortex
In a failed experiment to get more sex.
Now I’m trapped in 2098 selling Goretex.
2017 could have gone better.

Way way back in time
Before to burp was an imposition
And male dinosaurs ruled the earth
And female dinosaurs stayed in the kitchen…
Editor’s Note: This poem was never finished as the poet was brutally crushed to death by a vengeful time-traveling she-brontasaurus who is also your mother.

Remember that time,
That era of bliss,
When everything was
So much better than this?
When rainbows were present
Despite sunny days?
When you truthfully liked
One or more high school plays?
When people were friendlier
Than they are now?
When you could eat beef
Without harming a cow?
When the radio played
All your favorite songs
And giant monkeys weren’t kings
But elected-representative Kongs?
When Hamilton tickets
Could be purchased without
Selling infants on ebay
And a diagnosis of gout?
When Harambe was living
And that neighbor you hate
Was still in a prison
Somewhere in Kuwait?
But alas, you are peasants
And remember you don’t.
You tell me “say sorry,”
But too bad, I won’t.

I’ve got a flight
Tomorrow at noon.
It boards at 11:00,
An hour too soon.
I need to be
At the gate by 10:00 an’
That means to be safe
I’ll shoot for 9:07.
To get there by 9:00
I should leave around 8:00
So we’ll say 7:30
In case I run late.
I should set my alarm
To give myself time
To fully prepare
So let’s say 6:09.
When you figure in traffic,
Potential assaults,
The phase of the moon,
And seismological faults
I left yesterday
At 11:08
All the while disappointed
That I’ll probably be late.

It was 9:00 AM
Then I turned the Youtube on.
Now it’s Saturday.

I watch my life go by
In factors of sixty.
That little rotating stick,
The flashing colon,
The unending count
Of passing seconds.
No matter how angry the birds,
How many temples I fail to escape,
Or how many aces lay buried
Beneath twos of their own suit,
The hand will not speed up.
My hopes, and my battery, are dead.
When will this meeting end?

There comes a time,
From time to time,
When time passes too quickly.
Through times of joys
For girls and boys,
But not times that are sickly.
So I ask time
Just one more time
“Must you fly when we’re having fun?”
And in a timely way
Time did say
“I don’t if your joy’s never done.”
