Obfuscate and Pursue

I play hide-and-go-seek with happiness
And a sly hider I’ve found it to be.
I’ve looked in the obvious places,
But found little appealing to me.

I searched through arts and sciences,
And geographical sites galore,
But whenever I find some happiness
I’m not happy, because I want more.

And then when I tire
And I decide to quit playing,
Happiness comes out
From where it was staying.

What I learned from the game,
At least the way I construe it,
Is that happiness hides
Only when you pursue it.

Her Headache

She had a headache,
I had lice.
She had a headache
After I bought the mice.
She had a headache
When I was constipated.
Do you think maybe
The two are related?

Battery Low

The icon is red,
My battery is low.
I don’t know
How long it can go.

But one thing I’m sure of
Is that it will die at the time
Most crucial to me if I am
To set up a final…

Experiments

I swallowed a paper airplane,
Although not to I was told.
I don’t think it will be harmful,
But we’ll see how things unfold.

The River

Curvy, like bacon,
The river was snakin’,
But in our canoe
We knew what to do.

When the water got white
And no shore was in sight,
We weren’t worried
As through it we hurried.

When the waterfall came,
We felt just the same,
But we didn’t know
About the spiky rocks below.

But we came out of that one alive.
It’ll be a miracle if I live to twenty five.

Petty Karma

I’ve never murdered anyone,
Nor been charged with any crime.
That’s not to say I’m innocent:
I jaywalk all the time.

I can’t help but wonder
If Karma will punish me.
Maybe I’ll be the victim of a victimless crime?
I guess we’ll just wait and see.

Just a Thought

Many a person
has thought themselves straight.
They know better when they die.
Consider all the skeletons
That come out of the closet,
And who has skeletons? You and I.

Singing and the Rain

The wind howled,
The full moon scowled,
And the coyote sang alone.

Then the rain sang too,
And the wind chimed in,
And, once again, the full moon shone.

Sometimes when life is black
All you are missing
Is some singing when it’s rainy.

It’s a pity that
This is a just a metaphor,
But the idea is tastefully zany.

The Grander Slam

When my old buddy Steig
Joined the baseball league
I knew, although fatter,
I was the better batter.

So when he batted number one
And hit a home run
I didn’t give a damn,
And I hit a grand slam.

But Steig, I won’t lie,
He’s a competitive guy.
How can a guy like me save face
When Steig hit a grand slam with no runners on base?
