Don’t send her a breakup text
Next time your love’s in doubt.
Instead you take her to the gym
To show her how you’re not working out.

If you kill me
‘Til I’m dead
By hitting me
Upon my head
I will not get
Revenge on you
‘Cause that’s not a thing
Dead folks can do.

If your child is a knock-knocker
And you are a who’s-there-er
Then you probably know by now
You’ve made a huge parenting error.

You wrote the words
For weeks and months.
You edited for days.
You shared the thought
With everyone
In many different ways.
You wrote it down
On a gilded slab,
Even took the time to clean it.
You’ve done this to say
“I’m sorry,”
But you still don’t have to mean it.

I wish you could have been there
When I walked for the first time.
I wish you could have been the one
To give me my first dime.
I wish that you’d had the chance
To see my first crayon art,
But I know that you couldn’t
So I live-streamed it from my heart.
Sometimes we are seperate
When we wish we were near.
Sometimes we’re gone for hours,
Sometimes for many years.
I wish you could’ve seen it
When I got on stage and sang.
I wish you could have been there
When the wedding bells rang.
I wish you could have hugged me
Each time my life was torn apart
But I know that you couldn’t
So I live-streamed it from my heart.
Sometimes life asks questions
That have no good answers.
Some folks must be soldiers
So others can be dancers.
I wish that I had known you,
Asked you questions and the like.
I wish we could watch movies,
Play with cards or take a hike.
I wish that we could blame the dog
When one of us would fart.
Someday we’ll have the chance. ‘Til then
I’ll live-stream from my heart.
Sometimes the cruel or thoughtless
Can take away a life.
Sometimes we see a uniform
And not its kids and wife.
I wish you could have been there
When that bomb fell from the sky.
I wish you could have been here
So you wouldn’t have to die.
I wish the world would parley
Before any war would start.
At least I know you feel the love
Live-streaming from my heart.

It’s a hot Summer day
In paradise.
The sunscreen is out
And the coffee’s on ice.
The sun’s glow is amber.
The birds casually glide.
It makes me so sad
There’s no TV outside.

Some folks give food to the hungry.
Some folks give money and socks to the bums.
Some folks give smiles to the lonely.
Some folks give Gameboys to guys with no thumbs.

It seems when I awake
With the rooster’s joyful call
Then I approach the day
Knowing I can conquer all
But when I awake
With the sound of my own snoring
I can leave the conquering to you.
I like my life more boring.

You feel invisible,
Like you don’t matter.
Unseen, unheard,
The third wheel, the tenth batter.
You speak your mind
But they don’t hear what you say
So you take off your clothes
And that feeling goes away.

It’s not my fault! It was the sun!
Some dust got in my eyes!
The ump said ball. It was a strike.
This game is naught but lies!
We said good game, but it was not.
We’re better anyway.
Their uniforms are lower class.
Their coach is probably gay.

We lost it all. I missed the catch
Eleven innings in,
My glove an inch from victory,
A mile from a win.
Thus we nine fallen warriors
Shook hands with better men,
And so we slept among our tears
And rose to fight again.
