Mr. Mediocre Picks His Weekend Companions

Some people are winners,

Champions, doers,

Cheerful, successful,

Real woo-hooers.

Some people get up

At 5:00 am every day

And go run a mile,

Cut some wood, write a play.

Some people become

The world’s best at their craft.

They’re prom kings and queens

Who’re picked first in the draft.

And then there are people

Who are dumb, weak, and stout

And for self-esteems sake

They’re with whom I’ll hang out.

A Few Good Runs

I eat a plum

To celebrate

A happy day,

Successful date,

A win at work,

A good night’s sleep,

Looking at a woman

Without seeming like a creep.

I’ve been succeeding

In lots of ways,

And I’ll be out of the bathroom

One of these days…

A Good Year… So Far

I’ve exercised every day so far!

I’ve been a better lay so far!

I’ve eaten healthy food so far!

I haven’t even been rude so far!

I’ve been cheerful, smart, and nice so far,

And only been driven to kill some jerk who’s not as fit, healthy, sexy, and friendly as me twice…

So far.

My New Motto

If at first you don’t succeed,

LOL! Sucks to be you!

If at first I don’t succeed,

You’re dreaming. I’m perfect. All this is true.

Life is Ephemeral

If I were a mayfly

With but one day to live

I’d spend my only hours

Looking for ways to give,
And what better gift

Is there for a bunch of bugs

But a lifetime supply of happiness

In the form of chocolate Hugs.
I would build a factory

A milimeter high.

I’d hire and train the larvae

To work until they die.
I’d create a one-fly empire

To bring joy to me and you,

Only to have it crushed

By some human’s canoe.
So next time you are boating,

Running, swimming, or taking a hike

Think about the little guys

Before doing as you like,
‘Cause maybe the cure for cancer

Or diseases of another kind

Are hidden in the ephemeral

Ambitious mayfly’s mind.
If I were a Mayfly

I’d be the best fly I could be.

But alas, I’m not a fly,

So let’s go watch TV.

Coming Soon!

A vision achieved,
A dream come true,
And it’s coming
To a website near you!

I’ve promised at length
To take this blog far,
Whether through labor
Or a wish on a star.

Through a small bit of both
I’ve published a book!
And I want you, dear reader,
To have the first look.

By Valentines Day
It will be on the shelves,
Placed there by dozens
Of book-placing elves.

And once it’s available
You’ll have the full scoop.
‘Til then I leave you
With this poetical whoop…

The Travesty Continues

Here it is: The final day.
The year that was will fade away.
With this poem I complete my goal
To write a poem a day, each somewhat droll.

And so completed, I look ahead
From the unfair comfort of my bed.
I feel happy and somewhat zen,
And I think I’ll do it all again!
