Oligarchy Elementary Is Accepting New Students

I beg your pardon

For I mean to yap at thee

My case for nonconsensual

Reallocation of apathy,

For were we to allow

Our youth to expand

Their range of beliefs

We’d soon lose command

Of the best and the brightest

And the dullards alike.

Though the latter don’t argue

The former’d take a hike

And should free-thinkers see

All the ways we have lied…

Well, that is a notion

We must not abide.

Thus we must imprison

(At least to an extent)

Those who’ve not yet reached

The age of consent

And proceed to tell them

Facts they will ignore

To distract from the world

That they long to explore.

We’ll teach them arithmetic,

Reading, and writing

But most of all that

There is no need for fighting

For if each one resisted

Each oppressive foe

Then our script would be flipped

We, the high, become low.

Thus state education

In all things miscellaneous

Shall ensure that our underlings

Are not extemporaneous.

Thus closes my pitch

For public education.

We overlords live

Thanks to school’s misdirection.

Me Too/Two/To

After my boss said “You’re fired”

I bought the Harley I’d always admired

But without my car

I don’t travel too far.

I think it’s because I’m two-tired.

Home Alone

I stare blankly at the wall,

Fill my mind with off-white paint,

Then picture staring at your face

And feel thankful that I ain’t.

It’s the “-Archy” Part That Worries Me

We give men all the power

And we see it misused

In the eyes of the women

Who we find abused.

We give women the power

And all over the nation

Are innocent men

Ruined by false accusation.

Whoever’s in power

And however they’re dressed

We find both men and women

Are most often distressed.

When you talk about power

And forget about “who”

To look at the “what”

Then you’ll know what to do.

At Least “Epic Fails” Are Epic

There is no good or evil,

Just what we like or don’t.

Nothing is impossible,

Only what we will or won’t.

For every fearful sceptic

Who says “Man cannot fly”

There is Wright or Icarus

Who’s laughing from the sky.

You’ll be blessed with many Yeses

For every worldly No.

Will you risk Youtube infamy

To give your dream a go?

Nurture Your Nature

We build our lives to last

When no life ever will,

Polishing details

That only we can see.

We want to climb the ladder,

Be the king of every hill

While most things in the world

Will exist below the sea.

We bend and bleed and labor,

Flap our wings but seldom fly.

We might overcome our nature

But that is not my wish.

We could be a flying whale

But I have to wonder why

We would be unhappy whales

Instead of very happy fish.

The Vanishing Glass

They can trap us in their zoo

Behind their walls of glass

And teach us social boundaries

That we’re not allowed to pass,

Feed us just enough bad news

To keep our anger stoked

So we don’t see the sedatives

With which we’re being poked.

We the livestock draw the crowds

Of wealthy and elected

Whose power cries more loudly

Than the souls they have neglected.

They say they’ll cure our poverty

If they can have their way

Then toast with million dollar wine

And fly their jets away.

We watch the birds who fly outside

This zoo we somehow cherish.

We think that if we join them

We would starve or freeze or perish,

Yet the glass is not unbreakable

In our patron’s steel zoo.

Some of us still crave the sky

And so I ask: Do you?

Please Move Progressively Somewhere Else

If you don’t like the country

In which you make your home

Then see the world as options

To the places you might roam.

And if you’re in a country

You dislike but can’t depart

You are in our prayers,

In our thoughts, and in our heart.

But if you can leave your country

And insult it while you stay

Then do us all a favor

And shut up or move away.

When Big Brother Is Ignoring You

If you, dear reader, aren’t aware

Of government surveillance

Then you really ought to know

That the FBI

and CIA

Have a list of words like so:

If you write gun

Or bomb or kill

Or terrorism in an email

You’ll be on

Their list to watch

Whether or not you’re female.

If you write

Assassinate,

Anarchy, or Iran

Then your social media page

Will probably get a scan.

I tell you of

This fact because

My blog needs to get more views.

You’ll know if it

Worked out okay

When my arrest is on the news.

No Signal

Last evening I went to a party

To enjoy silly games with my friends,

To gaze in their eyes and avoid all the lies

That daily the Buy Stuff Guild sends.

But when I arrived at the meeting

I found my compatriots dead

For they talked as robots, just of things, not of thoughts,

Comparing what their Facebooks said.

Now I wander the streets, I the phoneless

Through the crowd who feel proud of their debt.

Is there still a someone who is friends with the sun,

To whom strangers’ hellos are no threat?

Though I may be lost I still wander

And my home is wherever I’m free.

As I whistle alone, just a man with no phone,

I hope that you’ll smile back at me.
