The Lord Of The Rings

A while ago

There was a guy

Who dreamed of being

A fiery eye.

We don’t know why

He felt the need,

But we know that

He did succeed.

The problem with

Old fire-eye’s plot

Is that what he wanted

Others did not,

And so he hid

His power away

So after his death

He’d still be okay.

He put that power

In a magical ring

That got stolen by

A greedy king,

And that repeated

Several times

Through fire and snow

And temperate climes.

Then one day

Some fishing midgets

Found that ring

And asked “what ij it?”

One said “mine!”

The other said “no!”

And so the midgets

Came to blows.

The winning midget

Became a beast

Who hid in a cave

Eating Fancy Feast

Until more midgets

Came along,

Stole the ring,

And sang a song.

A few years later

There was peace

And the ring’s new owner’s

Male niece

Got the ring

As a birthday gift,

Met some elves,

And got a lift

To Rivendell

Where it was decided

Fire-eye’s ego

Had the land divided

And that the only

Thing to do

Was to break the ring

Of you-know-who.

The elves said that

The ring must be laid

In the Mordorian lava

In which it was made.

The dwarf said

“That’s a lot of work,”

Hit the ring with his axe

And looked like a jerk.

So midgets and co.

Went on a quest,

They got betrayed

And left the rest,

Wandered alone

To the volcano of doom

Where the trolls and orcs

Drummed “boom, boom, boom.”

While they did

The men, dwarves, and elves

Fought three hours of orc wars

All by themselves,

Had a romantic subplot

With the long-lost human heir

And the elven princess

With the CGI hair.

By now midgets passed fire-eye’s

Most fiery gazes

Then the ring-bearing midget

Had just one of his dazes,

Turned to his friend,

Said “No Sam! The ring’s mine,”

Then dumbass lost his finger

And it all turned out fine.

The Rebuke of Sgt. Stayalive

Bring thy swords and don thy mail.

Ensure your steed is fed.

We’ll ride before the morning

And may never go to bed.

Bestill the fear within your hearts

Though the menace so approacheth.

If thou disobey these things

Then thou we will reproacheth.

Our phalanx must stand in unity.

Our legion must conglomerate.

Your questioning, if it should show,

Brings nothing but drama ‘r hate.

We ride! We ride to battle!

To death and glorious war!

And it doesn’t help morale if you

Keep asking “but what for?”

Gridiron

Gray steam rises from the sod

Obscuring the outlines

Of eleven men who would be God

If their teammates become so first.

The sky is darkness no one sees

Behind the lightning wall.

The crowd is warm despite the breeze

And bravado shields a heart’s true thirst.

A coin is flipped, a ball is thrown,

And bodies slowly shatter,

A ring is forever. A broken bone?

A pittance to the undying.

And so they fight, part man, part boy

So does decay commence.

They’ll either bottle tears of joy.

Or else just end up crying.

Here we see the warriors die,

Although they call it play,

Our voice is one great battle cry

To lend the few our will.

No longer are our swords so deft,

But fantasy’s alive.

Long ago the dragons left,

But here there’s magic still.

Priorities

Gary was outnumbered

A thousand to one.

He had some chopsticks,

They all had guns,

But he screamed “for freedom!”

And charged at the rest.

I cried behind a rock and lived

So my battle cry was best.

Live-Streaming From My Heart

I wish you could have been there

When I walked for the first time.

I wish you could have been the one

To give me my first dime.

I wish that you’d had the chance

To see my first crayon art,

But I know that you couldn’t

So I live-streamed it from my heart.

Sometimes we are seperate

When we wish we were near.

Sometimes we’re gone for hours,

Sometimes for many years.

I wish you could’ve seen it

When I got on stage and sang.

I wish you could have been there

When the wedding bells rang.

I wish you could have hugged me

Each time my life was torn apart

But I know that you couldn’t

So I live-streamed it from my heart.

Sometimes life asks questions

That have no good answers.

Some folks must be soldiers

So others can be dancers.

I wish that I had known you,

Asked you questions and the like.

I wish we could watch movies,

Play with cards or take a hike.

I wish that we could blame the dog

When one of us would fart.

Someday we’ll have the chance. ‘Til then

I’ll live-stream from my heart.

Sometimes the cruel or thoughtless

Can take away a life.

Sometimes we see a uniform

And not its kids and wife.

I wish you could have been there

When that bomb fell from the sky.

I wish you could have been here

So you wouldn’t have to die.

I wish the world would parley

Before any war would start.

At least I know you feel the love

Live-streaming from my heart.

Star Wars Episode IX: Return of the Common Sense

“Killing is fun,

Don’t get me wrong.

I love being a part

Of this white-armored throng.

I’m just saying

We’ve got a whole galaxy!

Why force-murder each other?

Let’s split it 50-50.”
The last poem of an unnamed Stormtrooper Captain (55-72 ABY)

His lack of faith was disturbing.

That Got Morbid Fast…

If freedom were free

That would be fine with me,

But then who’d pay for weapons

To blow up the foreigners?

So thank guys in cammo

And the makers of ammo

For giving us freedom.

Yours truly, the coroners.

World War Three

If we go to war with Russia,

Whether Putin’s fault or ours

It will be a lengthy battle

Between some major world powers.

But if we go to war with China,

Then China would be mad

Cause we’d send a bull to all their shops

And wreck ’em pretty bad.

Not The Queen’s English

A whole bunch of scores ago

Some British people got on a boat.

They came and taxed our tea, and so

The Constitution did get wrote.

The British guys thought a big red jacket

Would be the perfect camouflage.

Alas, their soldiers couldn’t hack it

And had not been trained to dodge.

And so we yankees won the war

And conquered all the Earth.

At the public school I learned this lore.

Hurray for America’s birth!

Then The Parents Awoke

As a kid, when I slept
And shut my eyes
After a long day of play
I did never surmise
That my play for the day
Would be my demise.

I remember the first
Of those nights of odd sort.
I slept on the floor, for
My sleep was cut short
When my bedding escaped
To the pillow fort.

I prepared to lay siege
To my fortified sheets.
I grabbed my nerf guns
And a few cans of beets.
I’ll have quite a mess
When my mission completes…
